What it is
PoroScout is a League of Legends Discord bot that brings champion
builds, ranked tracking, match breakdowns, and patch notes straight
into the servers and DMs where you and your squad already hang out. No
browser tabs, no alt-tabbing, just type
/ and scout. PoroScout's goal is to facilitate
easier conversations about champions or your own performance within Discord.
Look up any summoner, lock in the optimal build before champ select, break down a friend's last game, show off your wonderful performance, or defend your inting Sion game. The data is accurate and up to date, pulled from sources like the Riot Games API and Mobalytics, and served back to you in seconds.
Why it exists
PoroScout was born in 2021, my freshman year of High School. My friends and I participated in highschool level League tournaments, playing teams from around the state. Our main communication channel? Discord. When it came to scouting our next players, we'd often share OP.GG links in chat, and constantly have to switch in and out from Discord.
At the time, an alternative bot did exist, but it was heavily out-of-date and did not provide reliable information on champions. So, one night, I started the work on developing PoroScout, and before long, PoroScout said its first words!

Before long, PoroScout had all of it's basic commands implemented, but there was one hurdle: providing Champion statistics. Riot's API provides an easy way to fetch player statistics, but does not provide any form of champion statistics.
This is why if you go between stat sites, like Mobalytics to U.GG to leagueofgraphs, you will find differences in the data they report for champions. This data must be collected by each site and aggregated.
I had coded up my own scraping system. It started from a single player, collected data on their match history, then for each player that they played with, it would scan deeper into those new players' match history. After letting it run overnight, collecting thousands of matches, I took a look at the data.
It was all garbage. Turns out, with the amount of champions League has, you need a lot of data to make good generalizations (such as item builds, counters, winrates). So, I pivoted. Why re-invent the wheel when all of these companies already have data. At the time, I used the Mobalytics overlay to help with item builds, so I sent a cold email out to one of the Mobalytics founders. And before you know it, I got a response!
From there, I kept growing PoroScout. Contacting many Discord server administrators to expand PoroScout coverage and build new features.
What you're using today is the third iteration of that idea, rebuilt from to be faster, cleaner, and lighter than ever. It's an independent project, made and maintained because tracking the climb and scouting the enemy team should be effortless for your whole server, not just the one person with the stats site open.
